Dust off your roller-skates and head to Sellwood-Moreland.  You can rent a pair as well.  This popular SE Portland neighborhood has one of the best and largest roller rinks in the country with a Wurlitzer organ in it to boot.

Sellwood-Moreland has some of the most dialed-in tree lined streets of bungalows in the city.  This neighborhood is also a great place if you are an active dog owner.  In the summer you can take your pup for a run and swim in the Willamete River at Sellwood RiverFront Park.

Steph’s top picks:

Eat: Papa Haydn East for an Oregon Bay shrimp salad.  Something about the brininess of the capers make this salad sing.

Imbibe:  Kay’s Bar for a draft and pour of whiskey.  Great whiskey selection for a little, neighborhood bar like this.  If you’re lucky there will be a band playing on the corner of Milwaukie and Bybee right outside of Kay’s door.  I’ve become a serious fan of the Scratchdog Stringband who I heard the first time I went to this establishment.   Outdoor picnic table seating with bluegrass, wings, beer, whiskey and friendly folk.  Can’t beat that.

Play:  Practice your fancy footwork during open skate at Oaks Park.

Shop:  Get your spice on at Savory Spice Shop.  I found Hawaiian Black Lava Salt that I had been wanting to pick up last time I was in Maui, but didn’t get a chance.  Great place to shop for a sure-to-please gift.
